Comfortable, renovated 2 bedroom country house at the end of a little lane.
The house is built in stone and was renovated in a caring and sympathetic way, retaining many original features whilst converting it into a comfortable home both summer and winter. There is a solar panel to produce electricity, which makes this an economical home. The property has a very deep bore hole, supplying abundant water both for human consumption and irrigation purposes. The house is therefore not connected to mains water, however this can easily be done, the connection and the place to install the water meter are right on the doorstep.
The house is located at the very end of a tarmac lane on the outskirts of a small hamlet 7 km / 10 minute drive from the town of Cernache do Bonjardim.
We enter the house by an iron gate leading to the front door. We enter a room which can be used as a living room, a study or an office. From this room we have access to the bathroom, with bathtub, shower, hand wash basin and toilet, and heated towel rack.
Back in the first room, we walk up one step and enter the living room. The living room is l-shaped and has two windows with superb views into the hilly landscape. There is a log burner in the far end of the room. From the living room we have access to a bedroom, with a window also with good views. There is a wooden staircase leading onto the attic, which houses a larger bedroom with two windows allowing you to enjoy wonderful views into the nature around while you are relaxing in bed.
Back in the living room, we go down two steps and enter the cozy kitchen. The kitchen boasts a very efficient Rayburn stove, which is used not only to heat the domestic water but also to heat the water in the radiators of the central heating in the house and the towel rack. The kitchen has a mezzanine for additional storage space, accessed by a wooden ladder.
The kitchen has three windows and a door to the exterior, leading onto a wonderful courtyard with a covered terrace boasting a stone bench with a rocket stove for the chilly winter evenings. There is a well sized shed for storage and for fire wood in one corner of the courtyard. There is a smaller iron gate on one side of the terrace and there is another iron gate leading onto the plot of land and to a shaded water tank which is used as a splash pool on those hot summer days.
The ground floor of the house consists of two rustic rooms, one being used for storage and winery, the other one houses and a sink and the washing machine.
The land slopes down into the valley on seven terraces, on the bottom bordering a small creek. There are a good number of olive trees on the land, as well as some orange trees, and two apple and one pear tree. And plenty of space to grow your own vegetables and accommodate some animals.
Just above the house, there is a hard standing to park even a longer vehicle.
The property is within hiking distance of the upper part of the Castelo do Bode lake, there are uncountable paths to explore in the immediate vicinity.
The closest town is Cernache do Bonjardim, where you can find everything you need for day-to-day life. The larger town and council capital Sertã is located 15 km / a 20 minute drive away.
Both Lisbon and Porto airports are a two hour drive away.
