A rare opportunity to anonymously acquire a nuclear hardened mansion, optimized to provide a viable survival space following a nuclear war or other apocalyptic scenario.
The property has been owned by a Us holding company since 1993 which allows fast and anonymous transfer of control without property transfer taxes (8%).
A former convent with records of foundations dating back over 600 years, the property is partly hewn from the solid rock of a hillside and built of 120cm (47 inch) thick walls of natural stone. The property was acquired at the height of the Cold War by a retiring Nato trained Strategist who calculated that its location made it one of the most survivable zones in Europe. Situated about halfway between Lisbon and Porto in a lightly transited yet readily accessible valley, the property benefits from the protective blast shadow of a mountain range which sits between it and the only potential nuclear strike target in Portugal at the time, which was the Nato Allied Joint Force Command Lisbon. This was deactivated in 2012 removing the only valid nuclear target in Portugal.
Winds blow consistently West to East from the Atlantic Ocean ensuring that the location enjoys some of the the cleanest air in Europe and is not down wind of any potential nuclear strike targets or chemical hazards. This has reduced the blast, heat, radiation and radiological or chemical hazard to effectively zero. Further, the property is also located in a valley which provides added protection from blast and line of sight threats such as intital radiation from a nuclear detonation.

Access from the main road is controlled by two double gated private driveways.
The property is located by a non-navigable river and boasts over 300m (1000ft) of competition quality fishing and has three mutually redundant water sources; municipal water supply, a 55m deep borehole and water drawn from the river.
With a total of 30 divisions set over 5 floors with a total constructed area (interior floor space) of 1385m² or 14908ft², the property is currently roled as a private Executive Retreat and Conference Center modelled on a British Army Officers' Mess. In this configuration it can comfortably accommodate up to 12 guests in 5 double/triple rooms with 6 staff chambers sleeping up to 7. It can alternatively be re-configured in the "hostel" model which increases guest sleeping capacity to 26 guests and 14 staff.

With stone wall 120cm (47inch) thick walls and double glazing throughout, the habitable parts of the propery remain pleasantly cool in summer without air conditioning. The property is rated to operate as a sustainable "refuge and bunker" for 100 days of continuous autonomous operation and has had 3 live Proof of Concept Events.
Proof of Concept Event 1 (Year 1999/2000)
In the "Y2k Millennium" event the owners operated the facility autonomously for a total of 8 days (4 days either side of New Year's Eve 2000).
Proof of Concept Event 2 (Year 2019/2020)
The facility operated semi-autonomously (it continued with municipal water and electricity throughout) for 9 months as a refuge during the Covid-19 response.
Proof of Concept Event 3 (Year 2025)
When Portugal, Spain, Southern France and Morocco suffered a power outage the facility operated autonomously for 4 days.
In all 3 events the facility functioned flawlessly.
