Agualva is a former Portuguese parish in the municipality of Sintra.
In 2001 it was deployed from the former parish of Agualva-Cacém. It has as its orago the Immaculate Heart of Mary and Our Lady of Consolation.

In 2013, in the context of the administrative reform was annexed to the parish of Mira-Sintra (also belonging to the city of Agualva-Cacém), creating the Union of Parishes of Agualva and Mira-Sintra.

For several years Agualva was just a parish that acted as a suburb of Lisbon, not having any services or urban equipment that guaranteed the quality of life.

Agualva-Mira Sintra is the third largest parish in the municipality of Sintra, just after Algueirão-Mem Martins and Rio de Mouro, its size and central location give it a fundamental role for the whole municipality.
The parish has:
Four kindergartens
Seven schools of the first cycle
A second and third cycle school and two secondary schools.

In Agualva, there is also the fire station of Agualva-Cacém, the Psp police station of Agualva-Cacém, a Land Registry Registry, a Municipal Library, a Playful Center, among other services.

For several decades the central area of the parish was known due to the reigning urban chaos, however, from 2003, with the beginning of the works of Cacém Pólis, this area has been improving.

The former Melka Factory is being recovered to make way for the Sintra Professional Heritage Recovery School Eprps.

This intervention, initiated on June 15 and with a four-month implementation period, will allow the adaptation of the interior of the building, easing it with all the spaces necessary for the operation of the School of Heritage, ensuring the ideal conditions for the school practice of the professional courses that make up its current training offer, as well as preparing its future enlargement and diversification.

In addition to the administrative and logistics areas, the new facilities will include 11 classrooms, 2 laboratories, 5 specialized workshops (woods, metals, stuccoes, ceramics and gardening), 3 computer rooms, meeting rooms, teachers' room, student room, cafeteria and various offices.

With the installation of the Professional School of Heritage Recovery of Sintra in the new building it will be possible to ensure its growth, through the opening of new professional courses, already authorized by the Ministry of Education, namely: Archaeology Technician, Construction Technician of Musical Instruments, Audiovisual Technician, Safety and Rescue Technician in Aquatic Environment and Technical Food Industries.

This professional school currently teaches the Professional Courses of Conservation and Restoration Assistant, Interior and Exterior Design Technician, Photography Technician, Gardening Technician and Green Spaces and Production Technician and Music Technologies.

The new facilities will also allow the installation of a Qualifica Center, resulting from an application submitted by the Municipality of Sintra in partnership with the Ferreira Dias Secondary School.
